David Fletcher

In 1998, David was in grade 11 at Stelly's Secondary School, which is in between Brentwood Bay and Saanichton, BC. He was starting to realize that being a teacher could be a really cool job to have once he grew up. He was experiencing first-hand adults who were excited to share knowledge and ideas with thirty other people at the same time, to lead discussions and answer questions. To help people. They looked happy, but they were at work. How interesting!

David received his bachelor degree in English Literature from the University of Calgary in 2006, with a minor degree in Geography, with the notion of someday teaching high school. He enjoyed his undergrad experience, reading, reading, reading (and then writing about the reading). His poetry was published in a few local poetry magazines while in Calgary, and he read poetry at readings and worked with writing groups.

But before he could teach, he accidentally stumbled onto a farm in Ontario and fell in love the small organic food movement that seems to be picking up steam. He learned how to farm in Cambridge, Ontario in 2007, and then in 2008 he started his own agricultural concern, Irvine Creek Organics, and sold vegetables and pickles to lots of nice folks at farmer's markets.

But then he missed the coast where he grew up too much, and a windstorm knocked two hoophouses over, so he packed up and headed west to complete his education degree and enter the wonderful world of public education.
